Early Registration Extended for Yoga for Children with ADHD and Autism

Clearwater, FL (PRWEB) February 13, 2012

To encourage even more parents, occupational therapists, teachers and physical therapists to register for this unique course, Yoga Village of Clearwater is extending the early registration discount and two-installment payment option until next Friday, February 17th. “It’s just too important a training for someone to miss simply because they forgot about the early registration deadline,” says Yoga Village owner Jamie Luber. “We want to make this class affordable and accessible to anyone who raises or works with children who have ADHD, autism or other sensory differences.”

Occupational Therapy question?

Question by anonymoustipper: Occupational Therapy question?
Okay, I am a junior in highschool right now, and trying to decide between elementary education and occupational therapy. I don’t need any information on teaching, but I do on the therapy.

1) Are Occupational Therapy and Occupational Nursing the same thing?

2) Are there colleges in or around Knoxville, TN that you can get an Occupational Therapy degree?

3) If you are an Occupational Therapist, can you also do guidance counseling?

4) What is the average pay for an Occupational Therapist? And is it more than a teachers?

What you should do is call your local hospital, and ask if you can visit the OT department. They can answer all of your questions, and show you what it is that they do.

Here is a list of OT schools:

If you are an OT, it’s my guess that you’ll be doing therapy with patients, not guidance counseling. You’ll be making splints, helping people adapt to injury or illness with their activities of daily living, working with autistic kids or stroke survivors… that kind of thing.

The AOTA site may help you with some of your questions:

Florida Hospital College of Health Sciences Announces Fall Launch for New Online BS Degree in Sonography

Orlando, FL (PRWEB) May 23, 2007

Beginning this fall, Florida Hospital College of Health Sciences (FHCHS) will deliver its expertise in sonography education to students around the world by offering its Bachelor of Science degree in Diagnostic Medical Sonography completely online. Classes begin with the fall 2007 trimester.

“Much like the other online degrees in nursing and radiologic sciences offered by the College, sonography represents a growing field with an increasing demand for highly-educated professionals,” said Dr. Don Williams, senior vice president for academic administration. “The online delivery of the degree increases the access of students from around the world to Florida Hospital College’s expert faculty and staff. The students benefit by increasing their knowledge base in sonography and raising the level of their professionalism.”

Qualified individuals who wish to enroll in the online Bachelor of Science degree in Diagnostic Medical Sonography program must possess either an associate degree or certificate in diagnostic medical sonography and have a current credential in sonography. Students will be able to complete the requirements to earn their Bachelor’s degree in as little as 24 months.

According to the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics, employment of diagnostic medical sonographers is expected to grow much faster than the average for all occupations through 2014. As the population grows and ages, there will be an increased demand for diagnostic imaging and therapeutic technology. Sonographic technology is expected to evolve rapidly and to spawn many new sonography procedures, such as 3-D- and 4-D-sonography for use in obstetric and cardiac diagnosis.

This excellent growth potential for diagnostic medical sonography professionals who have earned a Bachelor’s degree will provide abundant opportunity in the future for salary increases and professional recognition.

Despite Over a Half Million Job Losses, Healthcare Still Booming

Aurora, CO (PRWEB) December 9, 2008

According to the U.S. Department of Labor, in November 2008, nearly all major industries suffered job losses, while healthcare grew by 34,000 and has added 369,000 jobs over the past 12 months. Consider the rising baby boomer population alone. Baby boomers with chronic illnesses need care and baby boomers who are retiring from healthcare positions need to be replaced. With few experienced candidates entering the healthcare profession to fill so many positions, the healthcare professionals left behind inherit a heavier workload.

Danielle Dupree, a health career consultant with Career Resourcing Specialists (CRS), who specializes in allied health professions, advises, “Even with the existing demand, it will take more than posting resumes, answering classifieds, and searching internet job boards. So candidates need someone with ample resources and the right connections.” When looking to make a career move, a healthcare professional should want more than a mere salary increase. A good candidate has additional motivation for a career change, such as a want or need to relocate, boredom, less than desirable commute, limited growth, lack of recognition, poor benefits, poor training, co-worker or management conflict, or a heavy workload.

Unfortunately, candidates are usually warned to avoid recruiters like the plague because of aggressive sales tactics. For concerned candidates, Dupree is quick to clarify, “While that may be true for some firms, on the other side of the spectrum there are candidate-focused firms, like CRS. Our mission is to first, build a relationship with our candidates. Second, discover more about the opportunity they desire. Then, identify the appropriate opportunity, rather than force them to take a job they don’t want.”

About Career Resourcing Specialists (CRS): Oregon-based CRS is a nationally established staffing and placement firm for healthcare professionals. Though CRS specializes in Physical Therapy, Occupational Therapy, and Speech Therapy, they network with hundreds of healthcare staffing and placement firms nationwide, in unlimited healthcare specialties, to provide the best match for the professional and the facility by listening, and working hard so both parties have an experience that is pleasant and positive.

Do Occupational Therapists Have as Much Job Opportunities as Physical Therapists?

Question by larrysnipes000: Do Occupational Therapists Have as Much Job Opportunities as Physical Therapists?
It seems the salaries for both careers are similar. Which career offers the greatest opportunities and ability for growth. Which one allows for a more flexible work schedule? I personally do not want to work the traditional 9am – 5pm shift and want flexibility. Thanks for your help.

Best answer:

Answer by Adam
Physical therapists are usually more in demand than occupational therapists.

Your opportunities for growth will generally depend on your commitment to continuing education. If you continue to learn new techniques and how to use new equipment you will be more valuable and will have more options.

If you are looking for flexibility PT/OT may not be the best career choice. You will probably be working in an out-patient clinic or a hospital and will be working by appointment. Out-patient clinics will have traditional hours and so you will need to work those hours. Hospitals may have PTs/OTs that work all hours but that’s usually not the case. Remember, PTs/OTs are seeing patients, so they are going to work when people are usually going to be able to see them. Most people aren’t going to go to an appoinment in the middle of the night or during non-traditional hours. This isn’t written in stone of course but your opportunities will be limited. You can work part time or only work on certain days if you don’t want the traditional M-F 9-5 workday.

Hope that helps.
